According to the Public Relations Department of the Weightlifting Federation; On the first day of the Fajr Cup international competitions, Mohammad Jeloud, the President of the World Weightlifting Federation, who arrived in Iran on Thursday morning, attended a meeting with Dr. Ahmad Donyamali and Dr. Sajjad Anoushirvani.
In this meeting, Dr. Donyamali stated that the President of the World Weightlifting Federation’s visit to different countries helps in the development of this sport and addressed Mohammad Jeloud: We are pleased that you have a detailed knowledge and understanding of Iranian weightlifting. Iranian weightlifting is seeking a generational change and needs the help of the World Weightlifting Federation to achieve this.

One of your supports in this direction is to grant Iran the hosting of various competitions. We will be ready to hold international events. In this regard, we would like to host one of the qualifying stages of the Los Angeles Olympics. Another plan of the Iranian national weightlifters is a strong presence in the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya. Our athletes are already working hard to achieve a defensible result in these games.
Mohammad Jaloud, the president of the World Weightlifting Federation, also expressed his happiness at Iran’s invitation to him again, saying: “Iran is a country with a rich history and culture. I am Iraqi and there have been many similarities between Iraq and Iran in the past. Iranian weightlifting was among the first countries to win medals in the world and Olympic arenas. Even after many years, different countries still contact me about Hossein Rezazadeh and ask where the weightlifter who had “Ya Abolfazl” written on his chest is. After Hossein, Sajjad Anoushirvani and Behdad Salimi won the first and second world super heavyweight medals in the Olympics. Perhaps we will never see anything like this again in the world.”
In response to Iran’s request to host one of the qualifying stages for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, the head of the World Weightlifting Federation said: “I personally look forward to the brilliance of Iranian weightlifters in the next Olympics, after the generational change they had. I will also have special support for hosting the Olympic qualifying competitions and I will try to give Iran one of the qualifying stages for the Olympics in the Asian continent.”
Regarding the quality of the Fajr Cup, she added: “These competitions will be the foundation for more important events for Iran. This year’s cup was held at a time when traffic was high. I hope that next year it will be held at a more suitable time so that we can see the participation of more teams.”
